The Republic of the Philippines is a soverign state in Southeast Asia which is made up of 7,641 islands that together span more than 300,000 sqaure kilometres of territory – but the majority of its fastest growing population live on just 11 key islands. These islands are also divided into three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

While there are over 120 – 187 languages spoken in the Philippines, English and Filipino are the designated official languages of the country. Other major immigrant languages include Arabic, Hokkien, Japanese, Korean, Malay and Spanish. As you can imagine the country enjoys a rich mélange of history and culture which makes it a great market to access other key economies around the world.

In fact, as an open economy the Philippines has strong ties with Japan, the United States, China, South Korea and Germany. Key industries are IT, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), FMCG, Manufacturing, Shared Services, Gaming, Real Estate, Energy, Banking & Finance, Hospitality, and Agriculture.

In addition, the Philippines is a founding member of both the United Nations (UN) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It has embassies and consulates in 62 countries around the world.

As a country that combines modern cities with stunning tropical islands doing business here embodies the ethos of play hard, work hard.

Fun Fact: The Philippines’ capital city of Manila gets its name from the Nilad, a tree with star-shaped white flowers sometimes called the Indigo tree because it yields blue dye.
